Virgen del Rosal

…”For the Virgen del Rosal I was working with an indigenous woman named Ingrid; I used to travel to her home at Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta and at the foot of fire, we abandoned ourselves to what we called “photographic sessions”. She woke up early, toward the housework, fed her child´s and resisted happy interminable sessions of hair style, make up and photography. We made 6 of these sessions during February to April of 2010”…

…”First thing to change was her family attitude; the husband began to wake up early to help with the housework, prepare the supper for us and take care of the child. Then, her sisters sent their daughters to see what was their auntie doing, and finally the males arrived: they saw her with surprise and respect, Vogue was not or had to be for make it the hot topic of the community…

…”Ingrid said it was a game and probably an impartial spectator may agree, but in my opinion it was much more; it was confronting the reality of two women, indigenous and black, in the middle of the forest provided with a cheap camera and a dress of paper; with the global stereotype of beauty, success and wealth: the cover of a fashion magazine”…

.. “at the end we had not changed at all, we were still living in the forest still the same people we used to be; but now both knew first hand, the power of paper clichés and how easy and fast it could spread in our community”…

The Virgen del Rosal it’s an exercise that looking in the community interaction, signs that illuminate the symbolic representations which regulates our collective interaction. Executes an extended performance that involves the unconscious participation of a community that pushed by the creative strategy returns a drawing that configures a social cartography
